Kilimanjaro Hope Organization (KIHO) is a non-governmental organization in Tanzania, founded in 2010. Our general website can be seen at http://kilimanjarohopeorganization.weebly.com/. KIHO is working on many projects to promote knowledge and tools for locals in the Kilimanjaro Region to make their farming more sustainable and profitable. Since the start of the "Mkume Sub-Village: Farms for the Future" project one year ago, locals have worked together with international volunteers to create a public learning center in one village, as well as pipe infrastructure for irrigation farming during the region’s dry season, and contour farming projects to reduce soil erosion. The next phase of the project is the installation of 10 domestic biogas plants for local families.

The goals of the project are to build 10 biogas plants in the area to reduce deforestation caused by the need for firewood, to educate the local population about this technology, and to relieve women and children from the work of collecting firewood, and the long time spent cooking, so that they may be involved in other economic activities, thus improving their families' situations, and allowing children to attend school.

The biogas project is a practical solution to the problems identified by the Kilimanjaro Hope Organization of poor land management, deforestation, and low education standards. Biogas is particularly feasible here because most families already have cows, who provide enough manure to power stoves for them if the biogas infrastructure is installed.
If we can get enough donations for the materials necessary, we can begin this project immediately, liberating women and children from the drudgery of collecting firewood, and protecting the forests of the Pare mountains. The cost of the materials needed for each biogas plant is about 700 USD. The overall budget of the project (excluding contributions from locals) is $5,300.
So we are reaching out to you, asking you to please follow the link below and make a donation to our project. Every small donation can help us make a difference. Please SHARE THIS with your friends, family and colleagues, so that together we can begin work on this project as soon as possible.
